It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Get ready, because here comes… a short update!
A few things have happened, but nothing groundbreaking. The site is now officially indexed on Google, meaning it can at least be found by some targeted searching.
The niche that this site inhabits is incredibly competitive, unfortunately, which means that without a lot of targeted SEO and Google-Fu, it will probably be a while before I get any serious organic traffic.
The good news is that I am at least showing up for a few keyword searches. The really unfortunate bad news is that I have not received a single organic visitor this month. What does that mean? It means that up to and including this exact moment, I am writing for an audience of one. I’m hoping that changes.
Why do keyword rankings matter if no one is visiting?
Even though I have no visitors, being ranked on Google means that the world wide web is getting a better idea of where my site and its pages fit. For about a week I had no keyword rankings. After 2 weeks of being indexed, I’m popping up for about 3 or 4. That means that people are searching for crap in Google, and my site is being listed in the search results.
The goal is to be in the top 3 search results, or at least be consistently on the first page for popular keywords. This is a tough job to accomplish. I’ve done it with my site over at RefuGym for a few keywords, which have performed well, but this site is an entirely different scope and objective.
RefuGym is supposed to be an informative affiliate marketing site. This site, however, is a blog, not a sales pitch. It will be interesting to see, over time, which method is more successful.
So that’s it for now. Still no traffic, and so, no monetization!
